DERTHONA VIGNETI MASSA 2021 DESCRIPTION

Derthona Vigneti Massa is an iconic and representative white wine, produced by what is truly the pioneer of Timorasso in Italy. There are not many cases in which the idea of a grape variety coincides almost entirely with a winemaker, and when this happens it means that we are dealing with a true flag bearer, capable of revalorizing and revitalizing a territory, just as in the case of Walter Massa with Timorasso and the Colli Tortonesi. An historian and profound connoisseur of vines and territory, Walter took over the reins of the family winery in the 1970s, however, deciding to make a radical change in local viticulture, favoring local varieties, limiting yields and restricting vineyard treatments to a minimum, but above all sensing the enormous potential of Timorasso and raising it to the status of the local prince white grape variety. The wines, which range from deep, territorial reds to long-lived whites, are true pieces of Italian wine history, must-haves in every wine lover's cellar.

Derthona wine is named after one of the most famous crus devoted to Timorasso, and Walter's wine is precisely a pure expression of the vine of the same name. In the vineyard, as already mentioned, as little interventionism as possible is practiced, and in the cellar it is done consistently, with spontaneous alcoholic fermentations and aging of the liquid on fine lees.

Derthona Vigneti Massa reveals itself in the glass with a straw-yellow robe of medium intensity. A broad and rich nose, where hints of acacia honey, flint, and white flowers stand out sharply, drawing a profile that interweaves fleshyness and mineral puffs. The sip is filling and endowed with creamy tactility, perfectly balanced between its textural richness and saline component that greatly lengthens the wine's persistence. Flagship.

When to open
To enjoy an artisanal wine at its best, we recommend you to let it 'breathe' at least 15-30 minutes before serving
When to drink
Wine good to drink now, but that can have a beautiful evolution after resting for a while in your cellar
Glass
Medium open goblet
Perfect for young and medium bodied white wines which don't require excessive oxygenation to open. The opening, slightly tighter than the body of the glass, favors the concentration of aromas towards the nose, enhancing the perception of aromas and limiting the dispersion
Longevity
You can easily cellar it for 2-3 years
