Meursault Premier Cru "Sous le Dos d'Ane" by Olivier Leflaive is a mineral and full-bodied French white wine from one of the most renowned areas of France. It is made from only Chardonnay grapes harvested in a Premier Cru in the Blagny area, the blend then matures in the cellar for 16 months in barriques. The colour is straw yellow with golden reflections and on the nose emerge intense scents of lemon, lime, acacia alternating with mineral and saline sesations. Olivier Leflaive's Meursault Premier Cru "Sous le Dos d'Ane" fully expresses all the sunny generosity of Meursault, enlivened by timely mineral lashings. Another centerpiece for the Leflaive family, owners of a historic Burgundian Maison that divides its activities between producing wines from negoce and others from estate vineyards. The total holdings of the Domaine extend for the remarkable size of about 120 hectares, although only 17 of these are owned, with the peculiarity of owning parcels located only in the communes most suited for the production of white wines, such as Meursault precisely, Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet, Chablis and Saint Aubin. Chardonnay in its area of choice succeeds in giving life to wines of extraordinary depth of flavor, masterfully interpreted by the Leflaive family, whose constant stylistic code, rigorous and millimetric, allows each parcel to express itself peculiarly. The "Sous le Dos d'Ane" Meursault wine is made from pure Chardonnay grapes from a premier cru located immediately next to the legendary Les Perrières, in the Blagny area. All the vines, which are cultivated following a regime of lutte raisonèe, rest on clay-limestone soils of a rather lean mixture. In the cellar after alcoholic fermentation, it is aged for 16 months in barrels, 20% new.
Premier Cru Meursault "Sous le Dos d'Ane" presents itself in the glass with an intense straw yellow robe that veers toward golden. The nose is a compendium of Meursault, and tastes of linden and acacia, butter and salt, lemon and mineral shakes, which follow one another in a dynamic and rhythmic progression. Filling and broad sip, whose mouthwatering richness is good to be paired with important-textured foods, such as shellfish in sauce or foie gras terrines.
