Sancerre "Les Calcaires" by Lucien Crochet is a pure Sauvignon produced in one of the most prestigious and historic terroirs of origin: the Loire Valley. The deep and multifaceted minerality that characterizes the olfactory bouquet is an unmistakable feature of the calcareous soil of Buè, from which this label takes its name. We find the same saline notes on the palate, in a more delicate and enveloping expression.
Domaine Lucien Crochet's Sancerre Blanc "Les Calcaires" is a pure Sauvignon Blanc produced in the Loire Valley, a true territory of choice for this beloved white grape variety. The wine comes from the blending of grapes that come from different plots on the estate, which are mainly located in the Bué area. The profile is refined and elegant with floral aromas, fruity notes, accompanied by typical mineral hints of the area. The sip, fresh and savory, is characterized by fruit that well expresses the delicately aromatic characteristics of the grape variety.
The white "Les Calcaires" comes from Lucien Crochet's estate, which covers 35 hectares, of which as many as 26 are planted with Sauvignon Blanc. The plots are mainly in the Bué area, apart from a few parcels located in the neighboring communes of Sancerre, Crézancy et Vinon. The soils are predominantly limestone-clayey in nature and insist on a subsoil of oxfordian and kimmeridgian limestones. Vineyard exposures vary from east to south to west and are located at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. The vines are trained by Guyot, and the harvests are all done manually. After soft pressing with whole bunches, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine also matures in steel for several months before being bottled with a light filtration.
The wine "Les Calcaires" is the freshest and most fragrant version of Domaine Lucien Crochet's Sancerres, the one that best interprets the varietal characteristics of Sauvignon Blanc grown in the Loire terroir in a simple and direct way. The color is bright light yellow. The olfactory picture opens on scents of white flowers, fruity aromas, delicate iodine nuances and hints of flint typical of the terroir. The sip is elegant, intense and smooth, thanks to a lively freshness that accompanies towards a pleasantly saline finish.
