Arran distillery, founded by Harold Currie, former Director of Chivas, is the only distillery in the same name Scottish island, and it is located in the center of Lochranza, in the northern part of the island. Harold decided to open it in 1994, but the opening took place only in 1995 because of two golden eagles that had built their nest in the place of construction! The above eagles have paid tribute making a flight at the official opening day of the distillery, painted in the emblem of the distillery.

Arran can take advantage of the purest water of Scotland: cleansed by granite and softened by peat as it slowly meanders from the mountaintops into nearby Loch na Davie. The island's microclimate, with the atmosphere of sea breezes and clear mountain air, is ideal for the maturation of Single Malts. The distillery has two copper stills, with plans to add two more ones in the short term; for its whisky does not use any chill-filtration and does not make use of peat during the production cycle. Fermentation takes place in large vessels of Oregon pine wood and the maturation in former sherry and ex-bourbon casks.

Arran is also a tourist destination, counting each year about 60,000 visitors, and it offers the opportunity to private individuals to buy their own personal barrel in the distillery. Among its products stands Amarone Cask Finish, a whisky double matured in Amarone wine casks and awarded 96/100 by Whisky Bible. Excellent even his 14 years and Cask Strength 12 years. Whisky of a young independent distillery which seems to be farsighted, just like its eagles.
