Oyester 44

Oyester 44 is an extraordinary distillery, born from a strong passion for the ocean and all it has to offer. It is no coincidence that it is located in the Zeeland region, an area characterized by numerous fjords and archipelagos that leave space for the undisputed protagonist of its story: the sea. Its founder, Chris Liebau, was strongly inspired by the centuries-old Dutch maritime tradition for the definition of Oyester vodka, determined to condense into a bottle a true celebration of the marine terroir. Its name, in addition to recalling the English word oyster - oyster -, incorporates the word “YE” used both to identify the fishing boats of the village of Yerseke, where the famous Dutch imperial oysters have been cultivated for generations, and in the ancient pirate expression “avast ye!” meaning “hold on!”. The choice of color for the bottles is also a tribute to the Dutch heritage: “Royal Blue” has indeed become a symbol of the Netherlands in the world since the 16th

century, thanks to the trade of fine Delft ceramics.

Oyester 44 is located in a building once used by mussel and oyster farmers, overlooking the ocean from the picturesque fishing port of the village of Bruinisse. Here, Chris's dream took shape, as a true Dutchman, he wanted to create a vodka that could be the perfect pairing for dishes of oysters and seafood, with a strong and distinctive taste. This desire is realized in the artisanal processing of new potatoes, verbena, and lemon balm from organic, local, and sustainable crops. The distillate is then completed with an unexpected mix of oceanic flavor: a delicate infusion of renowned imperial oysters and filtered seawater.

The vocation of Oyester 44 for craftsmanship and the enhancement of the strongest and most authentic Atlantic flavor is well recognizable in the attention to detail that characterizes its production, from distillation to design. The boutique tells the story of a love for the region and the sea, but also of a strong passion for its fruits, making it a surprising revelation. To appreciate it, it must be said, “avast ye!”“hold on!”.
