This important Maison has its headquarters in Epernay, the world capital of Champagne. The founder Pol Roger, son of a notary of Ay, was practically forced to invent "vigneron" and "manipulant" when his father had to leave work because of a serious illness. In 1849 Pol sells its first bottles of wine; hence, the "Pol Roger," which in 1851 he moved to Epernay. At the end of the nineteenth century, the Maison has gained worldwide renown and owns 85 hectares of vineyards, spread between the "Montagne de Reims", dominated by Pinot Noir, and the area of "Banc de Blanc", in the villages of Avize, Choully, Cuis and Cramant. In 1900 the children of Pol, Maurice and George, ask and get to change their surname, which, to honor the memory of his father, is transformed by Roger Pol-Roger. That year the Maison suffers incalculable damage when a collapse in kilometers underground cellars damaged beyond repair more than 500 barrels, destroying millions of bottles. Only with the help of other producers in the area la maison could recover. La Maison has always had an eye towards the Anglo-Saxon world, focusing a lot on Champagne Brut, much appreciated in England and the United States. The great statesman Winston Churchill among all brands, favored the "Pol Roger" and his death in 1965, the House to remember the great statesman died, he put on the labels intended for the UK a clamp black in mourning. More recently Queen Elizabeth has selected this brand of Champagne for the wedding of the century of William and Kate. The Brut Réserve is excellent representative of the full range of products of this historic house.
