BAROLO 'BRICCO DELLE VIOLE' MARIO MARENGO 2018 DESCRIPTION

Mario Marengo's Barolo "Bricco delle Viole" has in its chords the flavor of the tradition of true Langa winemakers. The winery is located in La Morra, in the province of Cuneo, with vineyards located in areas that are particularly suited to give birth to high quality grapes. Mario has inherited the passion of the family and pays much respect to the land, which, especially in these areas, has been a unique source of livelihood for decades. It is no coincidence that, on the label, the farmhouse in the middle of the fields is shown. Barolo is also produced according to rules passed down from generation to generation, with improved techniques and less and less use of chemicals.

"Bricco delle Viole" Barolo is, as per tradition, a pure Nebbiolo. The vineyards are within the cru of the "Bricco delle Viole" appellation, characterized by soils rich in clay and limestone. Manure is used as fertilizer, and copper and sulfur are opted for phytosanitary treatments. In the cellar, fermentation is activated by a pied de cuve and takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. After the wine has undergone malolactic fermentation, it is moved to oak barriques where it matures for 24 months before bottling.

Mario Marengo's Barolo "Bricco delle Viole" has a very clear garnet red. Once poured into the glass, the main scents are floral, where the violet stands out. However, fruity aromas also intertwine, between cherry and plum, and then expand on light spicy notes with touches of licorice. On the sip it has a very sensual profile, it's silky and pulpy, endowed with juiciness and finesse. The tannins are well balanced and soft, with a rather long final persistence. This bottle can excite, both when accompanied by food and on its own.
