Agustì Torellò Mata

Agusti Torello Mata is a historic producer from Catalonia specializing in the creation of precious and balanced Cava, a designation reserved for the most famous Metodo Classico sparkling wines throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Agusti Torello was born in 1935 and at just 18 years old opened his first wine analysis laboratory, while two years later he produced his first 500 bottles of Cava, simultaneously working as a wine consultant for important production realities in the area. Today, the Agusti Torello Mata winery, located in the La Serra area, is managed by the founder himself, assisted by his children Alex, responsible for the winemaking and viticulture aspects, and Gemma, dedicated to the legal and administrative aspects.

The sparkling house Agusti Torello Mata owns 150 plots, managed under certified organic farming. This heterogeneity of vineyards allows for base wines with disparate characteristics, each with its own unique identity. The cultivated grape varieties are those traditional for Cava production, namely Macabeo, the predominant variety in the winery's cuvées, Xarel-lo and Parellada, to which is added the native red grape Trepat used for the production of Rosés. The Macabeo plots are located along the coastal strip, on poor, gravelly soils, while those of Xarel-lo are found in the central area of Penedés on clay-limestone soils. In contrast, the plots of Parellada and Trepat are located in the Mediona area, between 500 and 900 meters above sea level on soils rich in sand and schist. The climate is strongly influenced by the nearby Mediterranean coastline, benefiting at the same time from the high altitudes that determine large temperature excursions between day and night, essential for the optimal ripening of the grapes. The harvests are carried out by hand and all fermentations take place in steel tanks thanks to local yeasts selected each year before the harvest.

countries, spread all over the world. The bodega can also boast the only Cava made with pure Macabeo grapes vinified in barrel. The Reserva wines undergo bottle aging on the lees for at least 24 months, while the Gran Reserva wines range from a minimum of 3 up to as much as 10 years.
