Château Grand Launay

With its artisanal winemaking approach, Chateau Grand Launay is configured as one of the most genuine wineries of the Côtes de Bourg, a wine region of Bordeaux located on the right bank of the Dordogne and Garonne rivers, right at the confluence of the two. The young vigneron Pierre-Henry Cosyns is the soul of the Domaine, the one who in 2007 continued the family's winemaking tradition by deciding to convert the entire estate to biodynamics and becoming the first producer in the Côtes de Bourg to produce wines without the use of sulfur. The winemaking and aging operations take place in a beautiful 19th-century building, and already in the early 1900s, the periodical Féret, a famous Bordeaux wine annual, included Chateau Grand Launay among the most important Domaines of Bourgeais, which was purchased by Pierre-Henry's father in 1970.

The Chateau Grand Launay winery can count on 28 hectares of vineyards, managed under certified organic and biodynamic regimes. The rows, made up of part from very old vines, are rooted in clay-limestone soils and enjoy the cool oceanic climate characterized by a lower amount of rainfall compared to other areas of Bordeaux. Merlot represents a remarkable 70% of the estate's ampelographic platform, associated with smaller percentages of Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The only white grape variety cultivated is Sauvignon Gris, which is reserved for just one hectare. In the winery, fermentations are entrusted exclusively to indigenous yeasts and are mostly carried out in stainless steel tanks. For the subsequent aging phase, cement tanks and old barriques are used, depending on the wine in question.

As is traditional for the Bordeaux area, the production of Chateau Grand Launay is focused on red wines, although it does not shy away from producing excellent whites. Labels with a crisp and dynamic taste, capable of faithfully and sincerely reflecting the territory of the Côtes de Bourg.
