The Pinot Noir of Express Winemakers is agraceful and fragrant interpretation of this noble grape variety of Burgundy origin, the result of a sincere and genuine production vision aimed at enhancing the character of the wines of Australia's Great Southern. The name of the project combines the words 'winemakers' and 'express', referring to 'expression', as the aim of winemakers Ryan O'Meara and Pete Ikstrums is precisely to enhance the expression of the terroir.
Express Winemakers Pinot Noir is made from pure Pinot Noir grapes grown using organic farming principles in the Porongurup Ranges area of the Great Southern. The vines are 20 years old and stand on north-facing sandy hillsides at an altitude of 100 metres above sea level. Harvesting is done by hand at a slightly early stage in order to preserve the acidity of the grapes as much as possible, which are then vinified partly whole cluster with spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and partial carbonic maceration. The fermentation process begins in steel and ends in old oak barrels, where the wine rests for several months before final bottling, which is carried out without prior clarification or filtration.
In the glass, Express Winemakers' Pinot Noir shows a beautiful, bright ruby red colour. The nose is played on the encounter between hints of small red fruits, dark berries and black pepper, with earthy perceptions in the background. The progression on the palate is agile, juicy and very fresh, characterised by a very light tannic texture that accompanies the clean, fragrant finish. This Australian Pinot Noir is an excellent accompaniment to white and red meat dishes, stewed or grilled, as well as to tasty platters of cured meats.
