R.O.' Barraco 2023
Artisanal“R.O.” is a unique rosé wine because it is born from the project of the Barraco winery, aimed at rediscovering ancient extinct varieties. On tasting, it proves to be delicate, slender, and pleasant, characterized by a subtle spiciness and floral nuances.
R.O. di Barraco is a Sicilian wine that comes from a new project by Barracco. The winery, in collaboration with the Vivaio Federico Paulsen, a Sicilian experimental center of great historical and agronomic value, has decided to save and recover from extinction some grapes. The Reliquia line of Barraco, to which this unique and very rare label also belongs, is therefore the beginning of this journey.
The wine RO is the result of spontaneous vinification of a clone of a red grape variety found by the Federico Paulsen nursery and replanted by the winemaker Nino Barraco. Since 2015, a micro-vinification in steel has been inaugurated, from which this label is born, in order to enhance the most typical characteristics of the variety. Fermentation occurs spontaneously in steel thanks to the presence of indigenous yeasts, with skin maceration for about 10 days. In line with the strictly artisanal production approach of the winemaker, every oenological additive is banned in the winery and, only at the bottling stage, are very low quantities of sulfites are allowed. Although the production method remains unchanged, each year this expression takes on different characteristics, presenting itself with a red or rosé color.
RO di Barraco can therefore be light red and rosé depending on the vintage, revealing an unmistakable aromatic profile. Its personality is subtle and delicate, marked by floral and spicy nuances that evoke red roses, violets, black pepper, licorice, and cloves. The sip is slender, thin, savory, and refreshing, revealing great drinkability, as well as an immediate, young, and pleasant face.
