Alain Vesselle
Alain Vesselle is a sparkling wine producer from Bouzy, a famous Grand Cru village of the Montagne de Reims, dedicated to the production of traditional Champagne that, however, maintains a constant focus on innovation. This Récoltant Manipulant winery is part of the Vigneron Independant association, which brings together small producers committed to directly overseeing every phase of the production process, from the vineyard to the final marketing, in a completely independent manner. The winemaking roots of the Vesselle family date back to the early 19th century, when Alain's paternal great-grandfather, Honore Constant Vesselle, made his first Bouzy Rouge. Meanwhile, Alain's maternal grandfather started his own wine production in the early 20th century, and in 1930, Fulgence Vesselle, who later became the mayor of Bouzy, created his own brand. Around 1960, it was Alain Vesselle's turn to establish his own winery, building on the heritage of a long line of vigneron. Over the following decades, the estate underwent a constant process of modernization and growth qualitative and Alain passed the baton to his son Eloi. Today, it is Eloi's three sons, Guillaume, Antoine, and Thibaud, who continue the family winemaking tradition, also dedicating themselves to wine tourism, an activity already started by Alain in 1987.
The Alain Vesselle estate has 18 hectares of vineyards, half of which are located in Grand Cru villages of the Montagne de Reims and the other half in the Côte des Bar, not far from Troyes. Only two grape varieties are cultivated: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The first grape variety, which represents 2/3 of the winery's vineyard area, brings structure and body to the cuvées, while Chardonnay adds greater finesse and minerality. The agronomic management adopted by the Vesselle family is sustainable, as evidenced by the HVE certification.
Clearly, Alain Vesselle's selection is focused on Champagne, although the winery also produces a Coteaux Champenois Bouzy Rouge following the tradition established centuries ago by Honore Constant Vesselle. The varied range of Champagne is characterized by remarkable finesse and fragrance, as well as for the high quality consistency ensured by the availability of numerous vin de reserve.
