Alois

In Pontelatone, in the province of Caserta, the wine-growing reality of Alois is the protagonist of an authentic production deeply rooted in the tradition of the area with its ancient grape varieties. The winery was officially founded in 1992 by Michele Alois, although the family's wine-growing roots are much older. Michele, a descendant of the Neapolitan scholar Gian Francesco Alois, purchased several hectares of vineyards on the slopes of the Monti Caiatini and a Bourbon rural house dating back to the 1800s. Furthermore, the Alois family has long been involved in the textile trade, since the times of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, and their fabrics can still be admired in some of the most important halls around the world, such as the Quirinale, the White House, and the Louvre.

The estate of Michele Alois includes approximately 20 hectares of vineyards dedicated to rare indigenous grape varieties of the Caserta area, such as Pallagrello Bianco, Pallagrello Nero, and Casavecchia, rediscovered and enhanced by the winery, alongside the much more well-known and widespread Aglianico and Falanghina. The vines are distributed across three different locations: Audelino, Morrone della Monica, and Cesone, differentiated by pedological, microclimatic, and territorial parameters. In particular, the vineyards of Audelino are situated on a plateau surrounded by a natural amphitheater of hills, located 350 meters above sea level and characterized by volcanic soils rich in tuff rocks, good ventilation, and significant temperature excursions between day and night. Instead, the area of Morrone della Monica, at the foot of Monte Friento, enjoys a full southern exposure, notable slopes, and a predominantly clayey-limestone soil matrix. Finally, in Cesone, in the western part of the Vallata di Pontelatone, the soil is mainly clayey and quite fertile. Depending on the wine in question, fermentations and aging can take place in steel, barrique, or large barrels.

The production of the Alois winery is divided into two different selections: the 'Alois Cru' line, launched 30 years after the grafting of the first vines and after 20 years of experimentation aimed at bringing out the high hill interpretation of the ancient grape varieties Casavecchia, Pellagrello Bianco, and Pellagrello Nero, and the range 'Michele Alois', the most classic one, aimed at enhancing the ancient wine tradition of the territory.
