Auriel
Auriel is a winery in Monferrato that produces straightforward wines with a typically territorial character, using local autochthonous red grape varieties, particularly Barbera and Grignolino. The vineyards cover about 3 hectares, at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level, with a south-southwest exposure, on calcareous-clay soils, and are managed with the utmost respect for nature and environmental biodiversity, applying the principles of organic farming and the Modern Biodynamic Method, based on the development and evolution of Rudolf Steiner's foundations. This approach involves using low quantities of sulfur and copper, cover cropping by sowing multiple herb varieties, the use of biodynamic preparations, and the renunciation of irrigation to encourage the vines to dig deep with their roots in search of water and nutrients.
Auriel was founded in 2005 by Felice Cappa and his wife Marta Peloso, with the desire to create a sustainable and natural viticulture project, in harmony with the environmental context of the magnificent hills of Monferrato. Auriel is the name of the archangel who warned Noah of the approaching Universal Flood, a biblical symbol of the intuitive ability to interpret the signals of nature, thanks to a privileged sensory relationship with the primordial forces of the universe.
Auriel is primarily focused on vineyard management, with the intent of producing healthy and genuine grapes from vital plants in a natural productive and vegetative balance. The work in the winery is carried out with vinifications that are very respectful of an exceptional quality raw material, in order to facilitate the transformation of the grape into wine without using selected yeasts, temperature control, enological additives, or physical filtration treatments. The separation of sediments occurs only through natural decantation and racking. The wines are aged on fine lees, enriching themselves with structure and naturally protective substances. They are bottled with a very low dose of sulfur, well below the limits allowed by the organic regulations, organic, in order to guarantee natural integrity and healthiness.
