Ballabio

The Ballabio winery is one of the most historic production entities in all of Italy when it comes to Metodo Classico production. Located in Casteggio, in the province of Pavia, it was founded in 1905 by Angelo, a man deeply knowledgeable in oenology, who immediately recognized the great potential of sparkling wines within the Oltrepò Pavese area. Today, Ballabio is led by Filippo Nevelli and his son Mattia, who, after completely renovating the winery with the most modern technological equipment, aim to take it to the next level, making it a benchmark in the sparkling wine world in the Pavia region. An ambitious challenge, which in recent years is already bearing fruit, as evidenced by the various national awards received, including excellent scores from the Gambero Rosso guide.

The winery extends over the gentle hills surrounding Casteggio, with a vineyard area of about 50 hectares. The vineyards are characterized by a subsoil that is quite variable in terms of composition, a result of the different geological eras that have contributed to its current formation. The most characteristic grape of the area is cultivated, also considered the variety with the greatest vocation for sparkling wines, namely Pinot Nero; a grape variety often difficult to tame, but which in more calcareous soils manages to express itself with unique notes. Vineyard and winery operations are carried out with care and respect for the surrounding environment, so much so that Ballabio has committed to drafting a true "Ethical Charter", where production methodologies are summarized and explained, in total transparency with the final consumer.

Ballabio labels are therefore only sparkling wines with a refined and structured profile, endowed with an intense aromatic bouquet and a clear taste of great expressive purity. "Farfalla" reaches important qualitative heights, offering us labels that, both in Extra Brut and Dosage Zero versions, express and enhance the characteristics Oltrepò Pavese.
