Biava
The Biava winery is located in Scanzorosciate, a small municipality in the province of Bergamo. Here, Silvio, Manuele, and Diego dedicate themselves daily to the vineyard, cherishing the ancient traditions passed down from previous generations, particularly from Grandpa Gino, a master and reference point who continued to work until the age of 96. Biava is a tiny family-run winery founded in 1988 thanks to the initiative of Manuele, who from the very beginning of his activity has distinguished himself for a production approach aimed at safeguarding and respecting the environment. Entering the winery, one can discover real enological gems, among which the Moscato di Scanzo deserves particular mention, the flagship of the entire company range, always at the top of the main national sector guides and present on the menus of the most exclusive restaurants.
The vineyards of Biava extend over a surface slightly larger than three hectares, from which every year only about two thousandbottles. The vineyards are perfectly exposed and enjoy a microclimate particularly suitable for the cultivation and optimal ripening of the grapes. The terroir is characterized by the presence of the “Sas de Luna”, a whitish limestone that helps to give a mineral texture to the wines branded Biava. Among the rows, Moscato di Scanzo is grown, the undisputed protagonist among the grape varieties, along with Moscato Bianco, Cabernet Sauvignon, and finally, Merlot. In the vineyard, yields are kept low to favor the concentration of aromas and fragrances, and every task is carried out responsibly, without using either herbicides or chemical fertilizers. The small winery is managed with absolute rigor, and among the various spaces, there is also a drying room, where the precious grapes of Moscato di Scanzo just harvested rest.
Biava is a winery that, as mentioned, has a truly limited production. “Ghibellino”, “Guelfo”, and “Giallo” are the three labels that lead to the company's qualitative peak, represented by the Moscato di Scanzo. A red passito wine thatis a true masterpiece, where personality and character come together in a sip of the highest quality.
