In the arid but cool climate of Patagonia, the Bodega Chacra winery produces surprising interpretations of the Burgundian grape varieties Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The story of this winery began in 2003, when Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, grandson of the famous Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, tasted a Pinot Noir from Patagonia at a tasting in New York. Having fallen in love with that wine, a year later he decided to invest in the Mainqué area, located in the Rio Negro region, locating free-range vines dating back to the 1930s. Piero was later joined by esteemed Burgundian producer and former actor Jean-Marc Roulot, who began assisting him in the cultivation and vinification of Chardonnay. In Patagonia, the term 'chacra' identifies a plot of land destined for pomology, a discipline that classifies fruit taking into account numerous parameters. This word is also known in connection with the vital energy centre that connects man with the entire Universe.

The 40 hectares of vines owned by Bodega Chacra are cultivated organically and biodynamically, with absolute respect for the balance of nature. In addition, the estate is dedicated to beekeeping in order to promote environmental biodiversity. According to these noble assumptions, only varieties of Burgundy origin Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are cultivated, which are well adapted to the soil and climatic conditions of the area. The altitudes are between 290 and 330 metres above sea level and the soil characteristics vary depending on the sub-zone, with the scattered presence of clay, sand, gravel and iron. Harvesting is carried out in the early hours of the morning, when temperatures are still cool, and after careful selection of the grapes in the cellar, vinification proceeds, in red for the Pinot Noir and in white for the Chardonnay. The fermentations are entrusted solely to indigenous yeasts, no filtration or clarification operations are applied to the wines, and French oak barrels are used for ageing, whose contribution is always well dosed.

This is how the whites and reds of Bodega Chacra take shape, elegant, fresh and perfumed expressions that reach levels of absolute excellence in quality, as in the case of the Chardonnay 'Chacra' and the Pinot Noirs 'Chacra 55' and 'Chacra 32'.
