Bodegas Bernabeleva
Bernabeleva is the winemaking reality founded back in 1923 by Dr. Vicente Alvarez-Villamil in the Madrid area. For decades, the winery has remained in the hands of its heirs who have cared for it with love and passion, cultivating the native grapes of the territory and transforming the estate into one of the reference points in the world of Spanish wines. The logo represents the goddess of hunting, to whom sacred forests were dedicated by pre-Roman populations through the drawing of a bear's paw print on the bark of trees or on rocks, which have remained intact to this day. Bernabeleva, literally translated, means the way of the bear, and it is precisely this animal, skillful, courageous, and energetic, that embodies the values of the estate.
The vines of Bodegas Bernabeleva are located at different altitudes, ranging from 500 meters and reaching heights of 830 meters above sea level. The vineyard area covers about 35 hectares, planted with ancient local grapes, among which the red grape Grenache dominates, followed by Albillo and small quantities of Moscatel.and Morellino. The hilly soils on which the roots of the Spanish bush-trained vines rest have a sandy composition, especially downstream, with the presence of granite rocks. In the vineyard, the soils are worked manually with the addition of organic fertilizers and small quantities of copper and sulfur powders. The pruning, planting, and harvesting operations are carried out according to the lunar phases, particularly in the plots of the single-varietals. The grapes, once hand-picked and transported in small boxes, arrive at the winery and are fermented in French oak barrels of different capacities and aged in the same barrels, which are rarely new and thus do not affect the wine with intense wood notes.
The wines of Bernabeleva Bodegas have a strong fresh and Mediterranean imprint. They present a clean and linear profile, sunny and authentic, with great expressive purity, capable of narrating the territorial richness and transporting us, sip by sip, into the wild territory surrounding the capital.
