Boizel
Boizel is a family-run Champagne house based in Epernay, a renowned village located in the Vallée de la Marne area, which boasts a long-standing and established winemaking tradition having been founded back in 1834. A fundamental value for the estate is the application of high-quality standards during each phase of the production process, from the vineyard to the cellar. From generation to generation, the Boizel family has acquired an increasingly in-depth knowledge of the territory and the ideal sparkling wine process and today respectfully and attentively manages the 7 hectares of owned vineyards. Leading the estate are brothers Florent and Lionel Roques-Boizel, sixth-generation winemakers, constantly engaged in the pursuit of the utmost sensory experience achievable through their Champagnes
The vineyards of Boizel are located in some of the most prestigious Grand Cru villages throughout Champagne, such as Avize and Mesnil-sur-Oger. The varieties are those traditional to the region, namely Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier, worked through a winemaking approach aimed at minimal intervention, made possible by the application of rational practices and operations. Each parcel is vinified separately at controlled temperature in small containers, made of stainless steel or oak, so as to provide the chef de cave with a wide and heterogeneous assortment of base sparkling wines. Generally, Boizel wines undergo complete malolactic fermentation, thus rounding out and softening their characteristics. The elaborated base sparkling wines aim to be a faithful expression of the crus from which they descend and are blended in search of the perfect combination of their respective qualities. The tasting moment represents one of the most important steps for the Maison, during which Florent and Lionel gather with their parents Christophe and Evelyne to establish the ideal blend.
Thus originates Champagne from a focused and clean style, which before marketing undergoes a long period of aging on the lees in the magnificent underground cellars of the Boizel estate. Inside the so-called “Trésor Boizel” there is a rare collection of Champagne from the 19th and 20th centuries, including specimens from the historic vintage 1834.
