Bouchard Pere et Fils
Bouchard Pere et Fils was founded in Beaune in 1731 and is one of the oldest estates in Burgundy. For over three centuries, it has passed down from generation to generation the ancient savoir-faire and extraordinary knowledge of the territory. The historical core of the company is the vineyard of Volnay, purchased in 1775. The estate then expanded during the French Revolution, acquiring many lands confiscated from the state from the Clergy and nobility. In 1820, the ancient fortress of the Château de Beaune was purchased, which with its large underground cellars perfectly suited the needs of the domaine. Today, the estate represents an important reference point for enthusiasts of great Burgundy wines and offers a wide range of labels of excellent quality.
Thanks to a patient work of selecting the best parcels, today the estate can count on a total area of 130 hectares of vineyards, located in the most prestigious denominations of Burgundy, from Montrachet to Corton-Charlemagne, from Bonnes-Mares to Meursault, just to name a few among the most famous and legendary. Each single parcel is managed with the utmost care, so that the vineyard can express the authentic essence of the terroir. A great knowledge of the places and an extreme rigor in the agronomic approach, based on low yields, allow for exceptional quality grapes. While remaining faithful to tradition, the estate has been able to innovate and pay more and more attention to detail to achieve an environmentally respectful cultivation aimed at enhancing an extraordinary heritage of vines.
Following the teachings and practices passed down from generation to generation by the great vignerons of Burgundy, Bouchard Pere et Fils manages the vineyards with the sole aim of producing great wines with a classic face that are faithful to the noble traditions of the region. The vast estate extends over 48 kilometers and is divided into 450 small parcels, which constitute a precious mosaic to be managed with extreme care and that requires great commitment throughout the year; from winter pruning to work in vine during spring and summer, until the harvest. The grapes are hand-picked and then selected on the sorting table so that only the best perfectly healthy and ripe bunches are sent for vinification. The cellar has been built to take advantage of gravity, and the fermentations take place for each single parcel. The wines age in the estate's cellar, in French oak barrels and in ideal temperature and humidity conditions.
