Ruiz Bruno
The Bruno Ruiz winery is a family-run winery located in Quero, near Toledo, in the Spanish region of La Mancha. In this dry and sunny land, red as fire, populated by windmills, the winery is managed with a romantic and visionary spirit by Julian Ruiz Villanueva, son of a farmer and a peasant, one of the last independent winemakers in a territory difficult to cultivate and in the hands of large industrial groups. Since the 1990s, Julian has been managing the family lands with great stubbornness, with a very traditional and artisanal approach, initially cultivating melons and peppers organically and then, starting in 1998, raising vines and producing wine, along with the famous black garlic and medicinal herbs.
The Bruno Ruiz winery includes 65 hectares of vineyards cultivated with local varieties, such as Tempranillo, Tinto Velasco, and Airén. Julian's sensitivity to his land has led him to a form of biodynamic agriculture, rejecting any invasive treatment and any form of mechanization. The youngest vines are 25 years old while some vineyards reach 150 years. The winemaking operations are carried out almost entirely outdoors: the fermentations are spontaneous, without the addition of yeasts and often without sulfites.
The wines from the Bruno Ruiz winery, distributed under the label signed Esencia Rural, are the offspring of a peasant culture with very ancient origins, which today proudly opposes the massification and standardization of industrial development. These are unique and fascinating wines, often produced in amphorae with long aging, without clarifications, filtrations, or the addition of additives. Wines that embody the most authentic and traditional spirit of La Mancha and that seem to tell, sip by sip, ancient stories and adventures, like that of Don Quixote by Cervantes against the windmills.
