Verdi Bruno
Paolo Verdi, heir of his father Bruno to whom the winery is dedicated, is a winemaker who, over his thirty years of experience, has managed to align the emotional components that in viticulture are impossible to ignore with the rational and well-studied part of the winemaker's work, placing the cult of the vineyard at the top of his value scale, as the true beating heart of all his activity. The goal that the winery sets is to craft their vineyards so that the grapes obtained are typical and recognizable as full expressions faithful to their terroir. An objective that is getting closer, given the numerous awards recently achieved.
However, the history of the Verdi family is not of recent origin: located since the 18th century in Vergomberra, a tiny hamlet of Canneto Pavese, when Antonio Verdi settled in Oltrepò coming from the Duchy of Parma. Viticulture in the family lands was already a common practice but from the third generation, under the guidance of Luigi, the Verdi family began to transform their grapes into wine, becoming winemakers and building the first winery. The first bottles produced and branded with their own label, however, are the work of Bruno, in the years of the immediate post-war period, followed in the eighties by Paolo, the current owner of the business, representative of the seventh generation in Oltrepò.
Paolo Verdi's winery owns vineyards located in the most vocated areas for viticulture in Oltrepò, exactly in the portion of steep hills that lies between the streams Scuropasso and Versa, upstream of the town of Broni. Divided among different plots, the property recognizes in the Cavariola vineyard its best cru, where the west-facing exposure and the nature of the clay-sandy soils of great permeability produce grapes of rare finesse and elegance. In the winery, the winemaking techniques draw from ancient artisanal processes while simultaneously using the most sophisticated equipment for winemaking, thus expressing the true essence of sincere and enjoyable territorial expression, as is tradition in Oltrepò.
