Ca' d' Gal
The wine-growing reality Ca’ d’Gal represents an absolute excellence in the enological landscape of Moscato d’Asti, ranking among the top interpreters of this historic denomination of Basso Piemonte, enhanced through expressions with a strong personality. The winery operates on the hills of Valdivilla, a hamlet of the municipality of Santo Stefano Belbo, where in 1989 Alessandro Boido started a production focused on quality with the aim of demonstrating that even Moscato can reach important levels of expressive complexity and longevity. The name Ca’ d’Gal derives from the expression “farmhouse of the rooster” and was chosen by Alessandro Boido's grandfather who, being the only male in a house of women, claimed to be like “a rooster in the henhouse.”
The Moscato Bianco is the only variety cultivated within the 12 hectares of vineyards of the Ca’ d’Gal estate, managed according to the principles of organic farming. These are old vines that reach up to 70 years of age, planted in light, white soils rich in limestone and sand, with full southern exposure. The harvest is carried out entirely by hand with yields in grapes per hectare significantly lower than those allowed by the production regulations, in order to elevate the quality of each individual grape.age, planted in light, white soils rich in limestone and sand, with full southern exposure. The vinifications are carried out entirely in autoclave at controlled temperature and the wines are then bottled under isobaric conditions, in order to preserve the lively effervescence that characterizes the type. Peculiar is the aging of the Moscato d’Asti ‘Vite Vecchia’, which after bottling is placed to rest for at least 60 months in wooden boxes buried in sand, as was once customary, inside a cell with controlled temperature and humidity values.
The Moscato d’Asti ‘Vite Vecchia’, the flagship label of the Ca’ d’Gal winery, reveals everything that one would not expect from a Moscato d’Asti: depth, breadth, and longevity. Also remarkable is the quality of the Moscatod’Asti ‘Lumine’ and Canelli ‘Sant’Ilario’, expressions that combine the typical sweet aromaticity of the grape variety with a vibrant mineral stamp.
