Ca' Lojera
In the magnificent context of Lake Garda, the family-run winery Ca’ Lojera produces wines of remarkable quality that speak of the territory. It was 1992 when Ambra and Franco Tiraboschi purchased a property with attached vineyards in the Lugana area, specifically in the locality of Rovizza di Sirmione, initially with the idea of selling the grapes. Arriving at the first harvest without yet having found a buyer, the couple decided to produce wine independently, thus beginning an activity that would forever change their lives. The winery is located in a beautiful ancient farmhouse, once owned by the bishop of Verona, which takes the name of Ca’ Lojera, “house of wolves” in the local dialect. This name derives from the legend that in the past, smuggling merchants hid their goods in houses located by the lake and were accustomed to defending them with packs of wolves. The 20 hectares of vineyards cultivated by the Ca’ Lojera estate are mainly dedicated to the traditional grape variety Trebbiano di Lugana, locally called Turbiana, alongside Marzemino, Groppello, Sangiovese, Barbera, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. In particular, the grapes of Turbiana grow by the lake in the Sirmione area on soils composed of white clays, while the remaining varieties are grown on hilly soils rich in stony skeleton. The viticulture adopted by Ambra and Franco is sustainable, and after manual harvesting, fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The subsequent aging periods always take place in steel or, more rarely, in 25-hectoliter oak barrels. For the production of sparkling wines, the estate adopts the Classic Method, with refermentation taking place in the bottle followed by prolonged aging on the lees. The wines of Ca’ Lojera reflect the desire of the Tiraboschi family to best represent the territory, giving life to fresh, vertical, and highly mineral expressions that see Trebbiano di Lugana as the production fulcrum, interpreted in different variations.
