Calvi

The Calvi family has been dedicated to viticulture for eleven generations, following a farming wisdom that is passed down from father to son. This family and artisanal dimension, which has remained intact and unspoiled in a present almost out of time, embodies in the most authentic and traditional way the production style of Oltrepò Pavese, expressed in the creation of still or sparkling red wines starting from the blending of indigenous grape varieties such as Barbera, Ughetta, Uva Rara, and Croatina.

For the Calvi family, the production of territorial and quality wines is part of a family journey that began in the 17th century on the hills of Castana, where the winery is still located today. The 12 hectares of vineyard are divided into about ten vineyards, each dedicated to different productions based on the pedoclimatic characteristics, according to a total and direct control of the supply chain, from the vineyard to the bottle. For almost thirty years, the technique of grassing the rows has been adopted, promoting biodiversity and avoiding the use of chemical fertilizers. The harvests are carried out manually and the grapes arrive at the winery, where they are vinified within a few hours. Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts is preferred, without the addition of selected yeasts. The productions are not chemically stabilized and the use of sulfites is limited to the strictly necessary.

The Calvi winery is located in the historic area of Buttafuoco, where different interpretations are proposed, capable of best combining power, balance, and elegance. All the labels arise from the synthesis of ancient farming knowledge, family tradition, and the peculiarities of the territory, thus managing to best express the historical and authentic style of Oltrepò Pavese, able to captivate wine lovers.
