Canlibero
In the Sannio Beneventano, within the municipality of Torrecuso, the recent and small winemaking reality Canlibero produces genuine bottles, the result of a truly artisanal production approach. Ennio Romano and Mena Iannella represent the couple behind this beautiful project started in 2011 in the Taburno national park. The couple, both coming from families linked to the wine world, use Mena's grandfather's cellar for the processing, which for decades was dedicated to supplying wine to cooperatives.
The 3 hectares of vineyards cultivated by Ennio and Mena are planted on calcareous and tuffaceous soils located between 420 and 470 meters above sea level, where there are also vines over 50 years old. The vineyard area is dedicated to Aglianico, Falanghina, Fiano, and Trebbiano, varieties grown under organic farming integrated with biodynamic agriculture principles. In this perspective, only low doses of copper and sulfur are used in the vineyard to defend against pathogens, as well as biodynamic preparations to promote soil fertility and the natural resistance of the vine. In the cellar, fermentations are conducted exclusively by indigenous yeasts, excluding any addition or artificial correction and also rejecting the use of sulfur and resorting to filtration and clarification. The vinifications, carried out without temperature control, take place mostly in steel tanks, with some labels aging in chestnut barrels.
Canlibero stands out for its sincere production free from conventional schemes and canons. The selection includes white wines, orange wine, rosés, and reds, all characterized by a vibrant and captivating energy. On the labels, characterized by a funky style and curious titles, Brando, the friendly white dog of Ennio and Mena, is depicted, chosen to symbolize their free spirit, a value well expressed by the name of the winery, which also derives from the patron of Torrecuso: San Liberato.
