Morey Caroline

The Domaine Caroline Morey is located in Chassagne-Montrachet, in one of the legendary places of the Côte de Beaune, and produces artisan wines of excellent quality. Coming from a family of vignerons, Caroline learned the ancient savoir-faire from her father Jean-Marc and in 2014 decided to embark on her path as an independent producer, managing some hectares of family vineyards. The small estate extends over a few hectares, divided into a mosaic of small parcels located in particularly prestigious areas of the municipalities of Chassagne Montrachet, Santenay, and Beaune. Extraordinary quality vineyards, managed with great care according to the classic principles of viticulture in the region: high density of plants per hectare and low yields at harvest, always prioritizing the quality of the grapes and the concentration of aromas.

The ancient village of Chassagne-Montrachet, along with Puligny, has represented for centuries the cradle of the greatest white wines in the world, although excellent reds are also produced there. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir have found in this corner of Côte de Beaune the ideal conditions for their needs and express themselves at the highest quality levels. It is no coincidence that the municipality of Chassagne-Montrachet hosts as many as 55 Climat classified as Premier Cru and three extraordinary Grand Cru: Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Criots-Bâtard Montrachet. The vines are cultivated on beautiful sunny and ventilated slopes, facing east-southeast, at an altitude ranging from 220 to 325 meters above sea level. Despite the various nuances of each Climat, the soils are predominantly composed of limestone, clay-limestone marl, or sandy soils, with an abundant presence of pebbles and skeleton, which make the lands poor and very suitable for quality viticulture.

The vines of the Domaine are managed with extreme care. The soils are plowed and then left to grow wild, with no use of herbicides and no use of chemical fertilizers, in order to respect the vitality of the soil and promote its natural balance. The work between the rows includes a summer thinning of the grapes and a manual harvest, followed by a rigorous selection of the grapes carried out before proceeding to vinifications, which take place for each parcel, in order to enhance the characteristics of each single terroir. The fermentations are conducted with minimal intervention, to allow the grapes to express themselves and to maximize their precious aromatic profiles. The wines mature in demi-muid and are then bottled without filtration, to preserve their full expressive integrity.
