In Canale d'Alba there is Cascina Ca 'Rossa winery, today run by Angelo Ferrio and his son Stephen. We are in the heart of the Roero, but the family Ferrio points out that in Piedmontese dialect there is the Roero, but "the Roero"; the "Roe" in fact, is that set of hills, woods, hazel, vegetable gardens, steep slopes and vineyards of Nebbiolo, Barbera, Arneis, Favorita and long-bunched Brachetto. When Angelo was a child his father Alfonso, after many sacrifices, he was able to buy the Red Farm, located on the road leading to Canelli. They were very hard years in the area and, in contrast to what happens today, the vine and wine accounted for only a minor aspect of agricultural production, as almost all the grapes were sold to external producers. The family Ferrio was simply a family of farmers: peaches, walnuts, apricots and poultry, but it was missing a small vineyard from which they produced a good wine sold exclusively in carboy a few private clients. The first bottling, almost industrial in character, takes place in 1995. Since then the company has made great strides: he embraced the dictates of organic farming, the area planted has extended both to the abandonment of the crop of peaches, both with the acquisition of new plots in the most suitable locations in the area. Today the company has a surface area of 13 hectares, situated on clay soils, rich in sand-yellow ocher and gray marl, splendid for flavorings that release the grapes, but absolutely inaccessible, requiring a totally manual work. In the farmhouse, on top of the hill called Monpussano, overlooking the town of Canale, Angelo has renovated and modernized the old cellar, enriching steel tanks thermo, of barrels and large Slavonian oak casks. Among the wines produced a predominant place is up to the Roero Monpussano, a Nebbiolo that is named after the hill on which is born the grape that produces it.

"L'azienda di Angelo Ferrio è da sempre un punto di riferimento nel Roero, grazie all'anima contadina e all'apertura verso le necessarie modernità: una tensione costruttiva tra due spinte che concorrono ugualmente a costruire la trama agronomica ed enologica di qualità che caratterizza Cascina Ca' Rossa"
