Castelfeder

For over 50 years, the family-run Alto Adige winery Castelfeder has been committed to the production of territorial wines in Cortina along the Wine Road, between Bolzano and Trento, in the Bassa Atesina. The winery was founded in 1969, and to this day, the Giovanett family, the founding family, leads the estate, continuing the work started by Alfonso Giovanett over 50 years ago. Over this time, many things have changed: production has been expanded, technologies modernized, and the commercial image enhanced, but the Giovanett family's passion for their craft has remained unchanged over the three generations that have followed. Since 2011, the family has also begun producing Riesling Renano in Moselle following the acquisition of the Sorentberg estate, always operating in the spirit of uniting tradition and modernity.

Within the 70 hectares of owned vineyards, Castelfeder winery cultivates Pinot Bianco, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Moscato Giallo, Müller-Thurgau, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling Renano, and Kerner among the white grapes, which constitute 70% of the vineyard area, while Lagrein, Pinot Nero, and Schiava represent the red grape varieties. These varieties are cultivated in various sites, such as Glen, Mazon, Vigna Villa Karneid, and Buchholz, areas characterized by different exposures, altitudes, microclimates, and soil types. In particular, the exposures are predominantly south-facing, the altitudes reach up to 790 meters above sea level, the microclimate is generally cool with significant daily temperature variations, and the soils are characterized by an abundant presence of volcanic porphyry and dolomitic rocks. In the winery, fermentations take place in stainless steel tanks, while aging occurs on the fine lees, either in steel or in small oak barrels, depending on the specific label.

The production of Castelfeder winery is divided into different lines, all expressions of the wine quality of the Bassa Atesina, such as the prestigious ‘Burgum Novum’, the ‘Castelfeder Selection’ with its “single vineyards and single varieties” and the youthful and dynamic ‘Mont Mès’ line.
