Castelvecchi
Castelvecchi represents one of the most important names in the prestigious territory of Radda in Chianti. The cellars are located beneath the Castle of the village and date back to the X-XI century. The estate extends over a beautiful hilly area, surrounded by a countryside where the vine coexists with the olive tree and large wooded areas. The highest areas of the hills of Radda, which exceed 500 meters in altitude, preserve the oldest and finest vineyards in the area, the famous crus of: Maggio, Poggione, Madonnino, Giardino, Ciliegio, Colle Petroso. A careful and centuries-old selection of the best Sangiovese clones and the stony soils allow for low natural yields, with a production of few bunches per plant.
To the particularly suited soils and the beautiful sunny exposures, a cool and breezy climate is added, with significant temperature variations, ideal for a slow and perfect ripening of the red grape varieties, with elegant and refined profiles. The heritage of the estate's vineyards has an average age of over 50 years and is the true treasure of Castelvecchi, plastically represented by the heart-shaped vineyard located in front of the winery, created with a selection of the oldest clones of the company. Each plot of the estate is cultivated according to its particular needs, almost plant by plant, to achieve the maximum quality and territorial typicity. The possibility of relying on many vineyards allows for an excellent choice of grapes and to always produce high-level wines.
In these particular pedoclimatic conditions, Sangiovese expresses itself with a very interesting face, so much so that the wines from the Radda area are considered among the best expressions of the entire Chianti Classico area. Castelvecchi produces a range of labels highly appreciated by enthusiasts, ranging from Chianti Classico, to Riserva, to Gran Selezione, the true jewel of the production capable of expressing the best characteristics of Sangiovese from Radda. In a land where Sangiovese reigns supreme, there is still room for Merlot and Syrah, which contribute to creating the blend of Solana, the great aging wine of the Estate.
