Catalano Viticoltori
The Catalano family is well rooted in the territory of Gela, in southern Sicily, where they have been cultivating vines for 3 generations. Over the course of 60 years, they have witnessed the rediscovery and qualitative enhancement of the native grape varieties of the area, to which they have always dedicated themselves. The great turning point came with the current owner of the winery, Rosario Catalano, who, after years of experience as an oenologist in important production realities of Cerasuolo di Vittoria, returned to his father Totò's vineyards, creating the brand Catalano Viticoltori and starting to bottle and market the produced bottles independently.
The vineyards are located among the gypsum quarries of the Arancio district, between Gela and Butera, at about 400 meters above sea level. The sun of Sicily and the white calcareous and gypsum soil, rich in stones and minerals, give the fruits of the land a full, intense, and refined aromatic profile, of great expressiveness. Salvatore Catalano, known as Totò, cultivates these lands as he has always done, with commitment, sweat, and passion, in respect of the most genuine traditions.peasant traditions, without the use of synthetic chemicals. The operations in the winery and the winemaking are entrusted to Rosario, who has become a leading figure in the area thanks to his oenological skills.
Love, passion, territorial attachment, and artistic awareness are the values that underlie the production of Catalano wines. Fermentations take place in steel, using indigenous yeasts or ogm-free yeasts, that is, native to the area and not genetically modified, in an excellent quality and territorial fidelity. The white wines mature for a few months in steel before bottling, while the reds are briefly aged in barriques, never exceeding two months, where they stabilize naturally, without resorting to invasive practices. From experience, effort, and the bond with the land, expressions of high value are born, capable of surprising with every sip.
