Celler Frisach
In Corbera d'Ebre, in the south of Catalonia, the project and enthusiasm of brothers Francesc and Joan Ferré gave life, in 2009, to the winery Celler Frisach. The two young producers have gathered the centuries-old viticultural heritage of the family with the sole intent of honoring their territory, a goal achievable only by cultivating local varieties through highly sustainable agriculture. The wine region of Terra Alta, home to the Ferré brothers, boasts a long winemaking tradition. Unfortunately, this area is also sadly known for having been the scene of the terrible Spanish Civil War, which marked the town of Corbera d'Ebre.
Since always, man and vine have coexisted in this wild and unspoiled environment that benefits from the Mediterranean climate and significant daily temperature variations, essential prerequisites to favor the correct phenolic and aromatic maturation of the grapes. The 20 hectares of vineyards available to Celler Frisach, located at about 400 meters above sea level, are managed under certified organic certified and consist solely of indigenous varieties. The principal grape variety is Garnacha Blanca (Garnatxa Blanca in Catalan), followed by Garnacha Tinta, the very rare Garnacha Gris, and, to a lesser extent, Garnacha Peluda and Carinyena (Carignano). In the winery, fermentations are carried out using only indigenous yeasts, and throughout the entire winemaking process, the musts do not undergo clarifications or filtrations. Even the additions of sulfur are null or, at times, minimal.
