Château de Villeneuve

Château de Villeneuve is a estate located in the heart of the Loire Valley, one of the largest and most important wine regions in France, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean coast to Auvergne, crossing the country on an east-west axis. It is a large vineyard of about 800 kilometers, with a remarkable diversity of soils and microclimates. The history of viticulture in these lands has ancient origins. During the colonization of Gaul, the ancient Romans brought the culture of the vine to the Nantes area. From the 9th to the 12th century, it was the monks of the monasteries who kept the tradition alive, spreading and developing it throughout the Loire Valley. Even today, Loire wines represent some of the best excellences in all of France.

The Domaine is located in the Saumur area, specifically near the village of Souzay, in a particularly suited area of the denomination. The climate enjoys a dual influence, the continental one typical of central France, is mitigated by the oceanic regime, which helps to soften the temperatures, favoring a perfect ripening of the grapes. The soils are predominantly limestone-based, shallow and with mother rock substrates. The estate of Château de Villeneuve extends around the historic building, home of the maison. The vineyards cover a total area of 25 hectares and are cultivated with the two typical grape varieties of this area: Chenin Blanc for the production of white wines and Cabernet Franc for reds.

The vines are managed with the utmost respect for the natural environment, without the use of herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers, following the principles of organic farming. To obtain grapes of excellent quality, the vines are trained with high planting density and low yields, trying to favor the natural vegetative and productive balance of the plants, without any forcing. The work in the vineyard and the harvest are carried out manually at full ripeness, so as to bring healthy and perfectly intact grapes to the winery. The vinifications are carried out simply, with minimal oenological intervention, with the aim of producing wines that are able to represent the authentic face of the territory.
