Château la Peyrere du Tertre

Château la Peyrere du Tertre is located in Savignac, in the Graves area, southeast of the city of Bordeaux. Its origins date back to 1752, when Raymond de Lassus, a banker, merchant, and secretary to the King in Bordeaux, decided to build Château la Peyrere on family-owned land that had already hosted vineyards since the 16th century. The domaine has passed through the centuries from generation to generation as a precious heritage. In the 1990s, the vineyards and cellars were completely modernized. In 2003, Catherine and Jean-Jacques Lucas fell in love with the property and purchased it with the intention of restoring it to its former glory. Their sole aim was to produce high-quality wines that could express the full potential of an extraordinary terroir.

Catherine Lucas, originally from Bordeaux and a lifelong wine enthusiast, has made Château la Peyrere du Tertre her home, thus deepening her knowledge of vineyard culture and the art of winemaking. The name of the domaine, La Peyrère, means in Occitan language "la gravière" and refers precisely to the composition of the soils. The lands are of ancient alluvial nature and are characterized by the abundant presence of gravel, which makes them very draining. The stones heat up during the day and release warmth at night, naturally regulating the microclimate of the vineyard and allowing excellent ripening of the grapes. The area is also influenced by the proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary, which mitigate the colder temperatures, avoiding the risk of spring frosts.

The vineyards of the domaine are managed with great attention and care. All operations, from winter pruning to harvest are carried out manually. The deep knowledge of the territory has allowed over time to select the most suitable vines through parcel vinifications, which highlight their best qualities. As per the region's tradition, among the rows, red grape varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Carmenère, and the white grape variety Sauvignon are cultivated. The range of wines from Château la Peyrere du Tertre perfectly expresses the tradition and vocation of a great terroir, with intense and elegant reds, fresh, fragrant whites, and refined rosés.
