Château Pontet-Canet
Château Pontet-Canet is located in Pauillac, in one of the most prestigious areas of Bordeaux. It is a historic estate in the region, boasting three centuries of history. Its origins date back to the 18th century. In 1705, Jean-François de Pontet, Governor of the Médoc, began acquiring land north of the village of Pauillac, in 1757 he purchased an estate in the Lieu-dit Canet, and in 1781 Château Pontet-Canet was officially born. Its development was immediately a success, so much so that in the 1855 classification it was considered Grands Crus Classés of the Médoc. The estate has traversed the centuries continuing to produce great wines. Since 1975, the domaine has been part of the Tesseron family properties, which has carried out a process of renewal of the estate, both in terms of vineyard management and winemaking. Today Château Pontet-Canet is managed by Justine Tesseron, her brother Noé, and cousins Mélanie and Philippine.
Pontet-Canet is located north of the prestigious Châteaux Mouton and Lafite and extends over 81 hectares, divided into about a hundred parcels, overlooking the estuary of the Gironde. The vines are planted at a very high density of 8,000 plants per hectare and are situated on a plateau composed of alluvial gravel, transported over millennia by the Garonne. Poor and very draining soils, particularly suitable for quality viticulture. The vines have an average age of about 50 years and are managed with low yields to obtain grapes with concentrated aromas. Since 2004, the vineyard has begun its conversion to biodynamics, and in 2010 Château Pontet-Canet obtained organic and biodynamic certification. To preserve soil vitality and avoid compacting the land, since 2008 the estate has decided to eliminate mechanical means and use draft horses for field work. The same attention and care are given to the work in the cellar. The philosophy is oriented to the principles of minimal intervention, inChâteau Pontet-Canet is located in Pauillac, in one of the most prestigious areas of Bordeaux.
