Chiappini

In the famous wine-growing area of Bolgheri, in Tuscany, the Chiappini winery is the creator of high-quality labels made through a masterful use of traditional Bordeaux grape varieties that have made the area great. The estate was founded in the late 1970s by Giovanni Chiappini, the son of Marchigiani farmers who moved to Bolgheri in the 1950s with the intention of starting a small agricultural business. At that time, the territory of Bolgheri was not as sought after and renowned as it is today; rather, it was a land of farmers, where viticulture was accompanied by vegetables, orchards, and olive groves. Today, in managing the winery, Giovanni is assisted by his daughters Martina and Lisa, and the family operates using cutting-edge techniques and equipment, without forgetting the close connection to the land where the Chiappini family has deep roots. The technical consultancy is entrusted to the renowned Tuscan oenologist Emanuele Falsini, who has collaborated with numerous important wine realities scattered across Tuscany, Sicily, and Umbria.

The Chiappini family manages 27 hectares of owned land, of which approximately 15 are dedicated to vineyards, entirely conducted under certified organic farming since 2010, thus excluding the use of synthetic chemical products and also resorting to agronomic techniques such as cover cropping and organic fertilization. The varietal platform includes Bordeaux-origin grape varieties Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, along with small percentages of Vermentino and Sangiovese, traditional varieties of the Tuscan territory, and Syrah. These are grown on soils generally composed of sand, silt, and clay, in varying percentages depending on the reference subzone, with particular richness in limestone and mineral substances. In the winery, fermentations occur spontaneously in steel tanks while the subsequent aging periods mostly take place in French oak barriques.

The names of the labels from the Chiappini winery refer to the estates from which the respective grapes come, and the selection is divided into two main lines: the DOC Bolgheri, a range that encompasses

typical expressions of the territory, and the ‘Lièna’ selection, composed of single-varietal reds made exclusively in the best vintages.
