Pira - Chiara Boschis

Chiara Boschis is the heir and custodian of an ancient winery in the center of Barolo, belonging to the Pira family, which, between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, was among the major protagonists of the winemaking history of the Langhe. Today, her vineyards are divided among prestigious and historic crus of the municipalities of Barolo, Serralunga, and Monforte, including Gabutti, Baudana, Mosconi, Paiagallo, Terlo, and especially Cannubi, which Chiara has contributed more than anyone else to cultivate almost entirely under organic farming. Environmental sustainability is indeed one of the strong points of this historic reality: in addition to obtaining organic certification in all vineyards, the Boschis family has provided to plant over 300 bird nests among the rows.

Chiara Boschis is now supported by her brother Giorgio Boschis, with whom she has developed a production style based on the right balance between tradition and innovation. The bond with tradition is evident in the spontaneous fermentations, without the addition of yeasts, and in the choice not to filter and not to clarify. In line with a more modern and innovative style are the separate vinifications for each cru, in order to enhance their peculiarities, and the use of barriques. The main objective of these choices is to confer elegance, harmony, and expressiveness to Barolo and the great wines of the Langhe, traditionally very austere.

The wines signed by Chiara Boschis E. Pira & Figli are great expressions of Piemonte, capable of combining attachment to history and tradition with extraordinary elegance and surprising drinkability. Among her most famous labels are Barolo Cannubi and Via Nuova, created from the grapes of different crus. The other reds produced share some common traits with these, including the indissoluble balance between structure and refinement, power and elegance.
