Chivas Brothers
Chivas Brothers is one of the most historic and important names in Scotch Whisky, inextricably linked to the prestigious range of Chivas Regal Whisky, which has become legendary. Its history dates back to 1801, when brothers James and John Chivas opened a prestigious grocery and liquor store in Aberdeen, which later became the official supplier to Queen Victoria during her visits to Scotland, obtaining a royal warrant. Meanwhile, in the cellar of the emporium, the two brothers had begun to age some whisky in barrels and, to meet customer demands, to blend the ages to create a rich and smooth taste, becoming pioneers of the art of blending. In 1850 the first blended product was called Reale Glen Dee, followed in 1860 by Royal Strathythan. In honor of the two brothers, in 1909 the Chivas Regal 25 Years was created, the world's first luxury whisky, and in 1938 the Chivas Regal 12 Years, which achieved success in the United States.
Since 1949, Chivas Brothers has owned the Strathisla distillery, which today boasts the title of
to be the oldest distillery in the Highlands still in operation, having been founded in 1786. Strathisla is also one of the most beautiful and picturesque, consisting of two historic buildings with a pagoda roof. Inside are the four large copper stills used to produce the Single Malt that is the basis of all Chivas Whisky expressions. Given the small size of the distillery, only a small portion of barrels matures on-site, while others are shipped and blended at other locations.
