Coffele
The Coffele winery is among the most famous and esteemed in the Soave area. The heart of the company is the ancient renovated farmhouse, which has preserved the original rural structure typical of the territory. The estate is rooted in family tradition. Giovanna Visco, wife of Giuseppe Coffele, comes from an ancient family of winemakers in Soave, who already in the 19th century cultivated vineyards and produced wines in the Castelcerino area, one of the most vocated crus of the territory. Giuseppe Coffele, on the other hand, a teacher and later principal, began to develop a passion for viticulture after marriage. After spending several years restoring the vineyards, in 1971 Giovanna and Giuseppe founded the Coffele Agricultural Company, starting to vinify and bottle the first wines.
In the following decades, the estate has grown to establish itself as one of the most important realities in the territory, thanks to a range of wines of excellent quality. Today the company is managed by their children Alberto and Chiara, who carry on the family tradition with competence and passion. After graduating from the Agricultural Institute of San Michele all'Adige, Alberto oversees all the activities of the estate, from the choice of rootstocks to plant in the field to bottling, while Chiara takes care of all commercial and communication aspects. The estate covers an area of 25 hectares, all located in Castelcerino. The majority of the vineyards are cultivated with the local typical grape, Garganega, supplemented by some vines of Trebbiano di Soave and a few rows of Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards are located in an unspoiled environment rich in olive trees, cherry trees, and large wooded areas.
The entire estate is managed with the utmost respect for the environment according to the principles of organic farming. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, with a southern and southwestern exposure, in the northern area of the Soave territory. The soils in the southern area of Castelcerino are calcareous, while in the north they are volcanic in nature, with an abundance of basalt. The climate is refreshed by the presence of a large wooded area, which also favors a rich biodiversity in the vineyard. The winds coming from the north always keep the clusters dry, allowing them to ripen healthy and with intense aromas. Within the estate, some particularly valuable vineyards have been isolated: Ca' Visco, Alzari, Nuj, and Castelcenino, which also give rise to some of the company's most important labels.
