Cragganmore

Cragganmore is a Speyside Single Malt part of the "Classic Malts of Scotland" from 1988, the 6 bottlings considered most representative of their respective areas of origin. Cragganmore distillery is situated on the banks of the River Spey, the heart of Speyside, in the small village of Ballindalloch, where it opened its doors in 1869 through the work of John Smith, regarded by his countrymen "The whiskey genius" for directing distilleries as Macallan, Glenfarclas, Clydesdale and Glenlivet. Not satisfied with the experience gained, he wanted to create his own distillery taking advantage of the purest water from the nearby Craggan sources, from which it takes its name the distillery. The area was also perfect for the presence of excellent quality barley and peat, as well as for the presence of the Strathspey Railway, a detail that did become Cragganmore the first Scottish distillery with direct access to the railway tracks.

After the death of John, the son Gordon restored the entire structure by the famous architect of distilleries, Charles Doig, which modernized it while maintaining the original classic style. A special characteristic of Cragganmore is the form of two of its four stills: his two "spirit still" are in fact small, flat-topped and with a capital T instead of the classic gooseneck, designed by John Smith to differentiate his spirits in a unique way compared to other Scottish whiskies. Its whiskies are certainly among the most complex of the Speyside area. Among these, we recommend the Single Malt 12 years, pleasantly intense and fruity.
