De Borgen
De Borgen is an ancient brand in the landscape of Gin producers. The tradition of Dutch distillates is rich in history, and even today De Borgen produces high-quality labels with natural raw materials, following the most ancient customs. The De Borger distillery produces and bottles spirits in Hooghoudt, in the north of the Netherlands. It is a small family-owned business founded back in 1888, which has been dedicated to Gin production for four generations. The art of distillation is based on solid knowledge in extracting scents and aromas from herbs and spices to create quality products. Even today, De Borgen owes its success to the use of artisanal methods, based on small batch distillations, in order to always ensure careful control over all stages of processing.
De Borgen produces a range of very interesting distillates characterized by a strong personality. These are Gins made with a malt base and botanicals, which refer to the tradition of the ancient Dutch Genever of the 16th century, a distillate based on juniper first used as medicine and then became so popular that it transformed into the most consumed alcoholic beverage in the Netherlands. In the following centuries, Genever became the most requested distillate in the northern European countries, so much so that the original name transformed into the simpler Gin and the Dutch Genever name into Holland Gin, to distinguish itself from the generous production of other countries.
The inimitable and unique style comes from the use of highly selected ingredients, starting from the fine barley malt to produce alcohol, to the choice of the best quality juniper berries and a precious selection of botanicals and spices. The distillation process allows for the creation of products with extraordinary finesse. For the aging of some of the distillates, barrels previously used for aging Oloroso sweet wine from Jerez de la Frontera are utilized. The true secret of De Borgen Gins lies in the use of traditional recipes, which have not changed over the centuries and which still today are able to give the genuine and authentic flavors of the past.
