Depperu

Depperu is a historic winery from northern Sardinia in the province of Olbia-Tempio, producing territorial and personal wines since the early 2000s from the classic and traditional grape varieties of the area. It was initially founded by Paolo Depperu and is now carried on with brave and ambitious spirit by his three sons Luciano, Andrea, and Giovanni, who are respectively in charge of sales, winemaking, and vineyard management. A story of family viticulture where the three brothers hold a prestigious and renowned role; it is thanks to them that the name Depperu has become a guarantee throughout the Gallurese area.

Depperu spans 20 hectares of vineyard divided into 15 hectares exclusively dedicated to Vermentino, with old vines 40 years of age, and the remaining 5 based on Nebbiolo. All the Vermentino vines are strikingly arranged on an entire hill at 350 meters above sea level in the locality of Luras, in the heart of Gallura, on soils that have formed from granite disintegration. The new vineyards acquired are instead located in Calangianus. Finally, Nebbiolo finds its home in the locality of Pedralza, at 450meters above sea level on predominantly clayey soils. The quality of the grapes is to be considered truly high, thanks to the exceptional nature of the terroir endowed with a unique and singular microclimate where the sea breezes embrace the cooler temperatures of the inland. The perfect ripening of the grapes is guaranteed by this crossroads of winds, which protects the berries from mold attacks, keeping them healthy and intact.

The stronghold of Depperu has now taken residence since the early 2000s in Località Sas Ruinas, which inspires the name of one of the most well-known Vermentini of the house line. The harvests are carried out annually by hand, the winemaking takes place in the cellar at controlled temperature mainly in steel tanks, and most of the aging is completed in oak barrels. The unmistakable traits of Depperu wines, which confirm themselves year after year with great merit, are the Mediterranean scrub, minerality, and acidity. A winery that confirms itself as a living and typical expression of Sardinia in all its territoriality.perceptible glass after glass!
