Domaine Arsac
Domaine Arsac is an interesting reality located in the French region of Ardèche, south of the Rhône Valley. It is an area that was once highly cultivated, representing one of the most important wine regions in the country, which has been gradually abandoned and only recently rediscovered. In recent years, Ardèche has been experiencing a true Renaissance, characterized by great vitality and excitement and represents one of the rising terroirs in the transalpine wine scene, much loved by the most attentive and curious enthusiasts. The territory where the estate is located is nestled between the mountainous ridges of Coiron and the gorges of Ardèche, a highly suitable area due to its unique pedoclimatic conditions.
The origins of the estate date back to 1945, when Gaston Arsac, returning to his lands from a prisoner of war camp, got married and created a small farm with various crops and animal husbandry, as was customary at the time. Ever since then passionate about wine, he planted the first vines on the slopes of Chaumette, although cultivation at altitude was difficult and laborious. It will then be the children and grandchildren who will continue the activity and convert the estate to organic farming. The inter-row areas are kept grassy, the soils are worked with the help of horses and fertilization is done only with organic manure from the cows raised on the estate. Treatments in the vineyard are natural, mostly based on herbal infusions. The work in the cellar is equally attentive. Fermentations are conducted only with indigenous yeasts and aging takes place in unglazed concrete tanks, terracotta jars, and oak barrels.
The vineyards are located in a high hill area, on the first slopes of the mountainous region of Ardèche, at an altitude of about 400 meters and are managed with the utmost respect for the environment, following the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The climate is particularly cool and breezy, ideal for a slow and gradual ripening of the grapes. The soils are quite heterogeneous, of very ancient volcanic origin, with calcareous-clay components. volcanic, with calcareous-clay components. They are rather poor and stony soils, but rich in mineral components useful for sustaining the vine. This fortunate pedoclimatic combination allows for the production of wines of excellent quality, characterized by freshness, finesse, and remarkable aromatic richness.
