Domaine Colette Gros
Domaine Colette Gros is a Burgundy wine estate located in the prestigious area of Chablis, from which some of the greatest white wines in the world originate. It is a family-run Domaine managed with passion and rigor by the Gautheron family, now in its fifth generation. At the helm is Alain, who, alongside his wife and son Cyril, pursues a production philosophy aimed at respecting the environment, while also setting the goal of bringing home healthy and high-quality grapes. Furthermore, to enhance the incredible raw material that the area offers, he vinifies using the most modern technologies in the sector, always respecting the character of the territory.
Domaine Colette Gros has 18 hectares of vineyards, of which 6 are part of the Premier Cru Fourchaume. The soils are mainly composed of chalk and the so-called kimmeridge, a type of soil rich in minerals and pelagic fossil substances that is very characteristic of the area. Since it is Chablis, the only grape variety cultivated is obviously Chardonnay, a variety that has made the fortune of this land where, along with the Côte de Beaune, it manages to reach its highest qualitative expression. The harvest is accompanied by a scrupulous selection of the bunches, which are destemmed and then softly pressed. Subsequently, the masses ferment at controlled temperature and are then aged on fine lees in steel tanks or in large barrels, depending on the label in question.
The wines produced by Domaine Colette Gros are essentially two: one Chablis made entirely in steel and one Chablis Premier Cru Fourneaux aged in large barrels. The former fully expresses the sharpness and minerality typical of the area, with a fresh and immediate style. Instead, the Premier Cru Fourneaux combines the characteristics of the former with greater structure and a softer body, attributes that, combined with the cutting freshness, contribute to its astonishing longevity. The wines of Domaine Colette Gros are typical interpretations, played on tension and taste dynamism.
