Domaine du Coulet

The Domaine du Coulet is an estate located in Cornas, in one of the most famous Appellations of the Rhône Valley. It is a reality that has maintained a distinctly family character and is managed with a genuine and sincere vigneron spirit. Since 1998, the reins of the property have been firmly in the hands of Mathieu Barret, who has established himself in the landscape of the denomination thanks to a production of excellent quality, always faithful to the oldest customs of one of the most vocated terroirs for the production of Syrah, the only grape variety cultivated in the AOC Cornas. Its wines have a strong character, a marked personality, and in recent years have been continuously growing, confirming Mathieu's talent.

From a geological point of view, the Rhône Valley is the result of the clash between the Massif Central and the Alps, which created a deep trough, for a long time filled with the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The northern area is characterized by the presence of ancient volcanic granite rocks, while further south, marine limestone deposits and river sediments prevail.to the south, marine limestone deposits and river sedimentation prevail. The history of viticulture in this region is ancient and dates back to the founding of Marseille by the Phocaeans in the 1st century BC, who brought and spread the tradition of the vine in these lands. During the Roman colonization period, viticulture dominated the valley and the wines from the area of Vienne were already famous for their exceptional quality.

The area of Cornas is located on the right bank of the Rhône, south of Hermitage and Croze-Hermitage. The vineyards are cultivated on steep, rocky slopes facing east and southeast, in a wide basin perfectly sunny and protected from the cold winds coming from the north. The soils are composed of earth and sand derived from the weathering of granite rocks, with the presence of clay and silt components. The Domaine du Coulet extends over an area of about twenty hectares, cultivated according to the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture. The style of the winery mainly aims to highlight the aromas of Syrah and the stony and mineral character of terroir, trying to enhance elegance and fruity aromas.
