Domaine Huet

Domaine Huet is one of the most famous wineries in the Loire Valley, known as the benchmark for Vouvray in all its different expressions. It was founded by Parisian Victor Huet in 1924, later establishing itself as a reference point during the leadership of his son Gaston who, apart from 5 years of imprisonment in a German concentration camp during World War II, led the winery from 1937 to 2002. Gaston's merit was to have early on understood the importance of vineyards to produce great wines, distinguishing the vineyard heritage into three plots with different characteristics: Le Haut-Lieu, Le Clos du Bourg, and Le Mont. Assisted by his son-in-law Noel Pinguet and Jean-Bernanrd Berthomé, who was among the first to experiment with biodynamic agriculture and the beneficial effects of music in the vineyard. The legendary production is now carried on by the new American owner Anthony Hwang and his son, who, according to many wine critics, have perfectly managed to inherit the legacy of Gaston and Berthomé, reaching even higher peaks of elegance, clarity, and aromatic cleanliness.

even higher peaks of elegance, clarity, and aromatic cleanliness.

The success and excellence achieved and maintained over the decades by Domaine Huet are due to a precise and rigorous production practice, designed to maximize the great potential of the territory, seeking to avoid invasive interventions. The agricultural approach is to help the vineyard find its natural balance, without using chemical products and relying, for over 25 years, on the principles of biodynamics. The harvests are carried out in a staggered manner, meaning multiple passes along the rows, to collect the clusters of Chenin Blanc affected by noble rot, according to the tradition of Vouvray wine. The vinifications are conducted separately for each cru: the grapes are gently pressed, the fermentations occur spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, and the aging is conducted in steel for about 6 months.

The wines of Domaine Huet are considered among the best and most memorable expressions of Vouvray. This type of white wine typical of a small area of theLoire Valley is offered in different versions, from the dry one, called 'sec', to the slightly sweeter and more complex one called 'molleux'. These are great interpretations of the terroir, capable of moving and touching the heart.
