Domaine Simha

Domaine Simha is an interesting winery from the New World located in Tasmania, the island south of Australia, separated from Melbourne by the Bass Strait. It is a territory of the southern hemisphere situated in an extreme area for viticulture, capable of surprising with wines of excellent quality. The cool, always very windy climate and the presence of the Ocean create very particular conditions, with significant temperature variations, which have proven particularly suitable for some varieties native to Central Europe. The region is particularly suited for white grape varieties, especially for Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and for Pinot Noir, an early-ripening red that notoriously suffers in too warm climates.

The vineyards of Domaine Simba are located within a wild and unspoiled environmental context, characterized by lush nature. The vines are cultivated in the valleys of Derwent, the Coal River, and Huon, in places particularly suitable for the vine due to the presence of highly suitable soils and a particular microclimate. The individual parcels are followed with meticulous care and attention, so as to arrive at the time of harvest with healthy grapes characterized by intense aromas and fragrances. The vines are managed with full respect for an environment rich in natural biodiversity. The farming practices and harvesting operations follow the lunar cycle calendar.

The philosophy of the winery is aimed at creating wines capable of expressing the essence of a distant and little-known terroir, still to be discovered by many enthusiasts. The owner of the domaine, Nav Singh, has built his knowledge in the wine field through numerous experiences in Australia and with some stays in important French wineries in Bordeaux and Burgundy, true universities of wine, where he learned the secrets of the art of winemaking and aging. Fermentations take place with whole clusters and the wines mature in oak barrels and terracotta dolia. To ensure the absolute integrity of the wines, bottling occurs without proceeding to clarification or filtration.
