Dominio del Urogallo
Dominio del Urogallo is a small winery located in a valley surrounded by the mountains of Asturias, in northern Spain. It was founded in 2009 from the passion and creative talent of two friends, Nicolas Marcos and Francisco Asencio: the first is the son of winemakers, with significant viticulture experience in France and the United States; the second comes from the field of renewable energies, always attentive to environmental issues. The goal is to produce authentic and territorial wines using only indigenous grape varieties, without resorting to compression and standardization. The style of the winery is indeed summed up by the word “limpieza,” meaning clarity and transparency, absence of artifice, and full respect for nature and its expressions.
The vineyards of Dominio del Urogallo are divided into 24 parcels and extend over approximately 14 hectares along the steep and rugged slopes of the Asturian mountains, between 300 and 700 meters above sea level, on soils composed of red clays, schist, anthracite, and silica. In the vineyard, respect for the principles of biodynamic agriculture prevails, along with the protection and enhancement of the oldest vines, some of which are over 100 years old. In the winery, fermentations mainly take place in small Burgundy barrels, without filtration, without the addition of additives, and without sulfur during winemaking.

They arise from typical local grape varieties, mainly from Albarin blanco, Verdejo negro, Carrasquin, and Albarin tinto, and fully express the mineral nature of the soils from which they come. These are unique and original wines that perfectly embody, with their authentic and spontaneous personality, that ideal of clarity on which this small and brilliant Spanish winery is founded.
