Fattoria Pomona

The winery Fattoria Pomona is part of a historic farm located in the heart of Chianti Classico and whose original core dates back to the second half of the 18th century. Initially owned by the Ricceri family, the farm was purchased in 1899 by Bandino Bandini, who started a flourishing agricultural activity aimed at the production of oil and wine. To emphasize the vigor of the activity, the farm was renamed “Pomona”. With the end of sharecropping in the 1950s, the winery experienced a period of inactivity until Bandino's grandson, Enzo Raspi, began a long recovery process, now carried on by his daughter. Monica Raspi is a dedicated winemaker who decided to leave her profession as a veterinarian to devote her mind and heart to her vineyards.

The 6 hectares of owned vineyard are located right in front of the winery, which is also Monica's home, at an altitude of 350 meters with a south/southeast exposure in a ventilated area, on calcareous-clay soils with the presence of alberese. The vines are predominantly made from Sangiovese, with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, once used to soften the Sangiovese, now vinified in purity, and a bit of Trebbiano Toscano. The oldest vines, reaching 30 years of age, are trained to a spurred cordon, while the younger ones are trained to Guyot. The vineyard is managed according to the principles of organic farming: pest control interventions are limited, and low environmental impact fertilization is used to stimulate the plants' self-defense and harvest completely natural grapes.

After the harvest, the grapes are left to ferment on the skins in steel tanks using only indigenous yeasts, naturally present on the skins. As per tradition, the aging lasts a year and takes place in large barrels, which better preserve the varietal notes of Sangiovese. The Chianti Classico from Fattoria Pomona stands out for its typicity and elegance, for the aromas that evoke floral and balsamic sensations, combined with a harmonious and graceful drinkability.
