Ferracane
The story of Fabio Ferracane is that of a young winemaker, born in 1985, who, after several years of experience gained between Sicily, Northern Italy, Armenia, Australia, and New Zealand, decides to return to Marsala to dedicate himself to the family vineyards. Since he was a child, Fabio had always helped his father Antonino in the cultivation of the 3 hectares of vineyard inherited from him, selling the grapes to some local wineries and producing wine only for home use. Since 2011, Fabio has returned home, with the awareness that the oenological expression of the beautiful territory of Marsala can be a true reason for life.
Fabio Ferracane's adventure in the wine world began precisely from those family vineyards and from the passion for producing a genuine wine together with his father as it was done in ancient times, starting from the vineyard to the cellar, excluding the use of chemicals and added yeasts: only must put to ferment! It was an authentic territorial expression to be drunk only within the domestic walls and that now can fortunately be offered to the public. This is indeed the desire that started Fabio's production: to share that same genuine wine that for years his father produced only for himself and his family with an ever-wider audience. Meanwhile, Fabio continues to refine his experience as a winemaker by collaborating with colleagues from some local companies with whom he exchanges knowledge on viticultural and winemaking techniques.
Today the Ferracane winery in Marsala can count on 5 hectares of vineyard and another 3 hectares that will become productive in the coming years. In the vineyard, systemic and chemical products are never used, in order to implement viticulture that respects the environment, using cover cropping practices with annual rotations (veccia and favino) and few treatments of sulfur and copper to control downy mildew and powdery mildew. The wines produced are expressions of a unique territory and the result of a corporate philosophy, that of “slow cultivating”, which has become the main value of this small family winery of high artisanal value.
